The TIG Field Card

Four pages Dakota put together from the settings he actually uses. Amperage for steel, stainless and aluminum, what the bead is telling you, and the twelve things that go wrong with the fix for each. Print it for the wall or fold the last page into your hood bag.

A short email now and then: when a guide gets updated, when a new one lands, and the occasional offer. Nothing else, and we never sell your address. Unsubscribe any time.

  • 1 Set the machine. Tungsten grind, torch and filler angles, gas, cup and polarity, and amperage tables for mild steel, stainless and aluminum.
  • 2 Read the bead. Five cross sections, the stainless heat tint chart, the habits that separate good from pretty good, and twelve symptoms with the fix for each.
  • 3 A pocket card. Four to a page. Cut, fold, and you have a two sided card, 3.5 by 2.25 inches, that lives in the hood bag.

The card sets the machine. The guide teaches the hand.

Arc length, torch angle, filler feed and the practice ladder that gets you from a ropey bead to one you would put your name on. Everything the card only had room to name.
